About

An independent Microsoft consultancy

We do not resell software. What we sell is the assessment, the architecture, the implementation, and the ongoing operation — work whose value does not depend on how much you spend with anyone else.

Mission

To make Microsoft technology decisions legible — so that organizations understand what they are buying, what it protects them from, and what it will cost to run.

Vision

A market where enterprise technology advice is judged on whether it was right, not on how much product it moved.

Our story

Why OVAL exists

OVAL LLC was founded on a straightforward observation: most organizations do not have a Microsoft technology problem. They have an information problem. The platform is capable, the licensing is comprehensible, and the security tooling works — but almost nobody has an accurate picture of what they own, how it is configured, or what it is costing them.

That gap persists because the incentives around it are poor. Most Microsoft advice is delivered by companies that earn margin on the products they recommend, which makes 'you are already paying for this, you just have not turned it on' a difficult sentence for them to say.

We built OVAL to sit on the other side of that line. We are an independent technology consulting company. We do not resell software, and our recommendations carry no product margin. What we sell is the assessment, the architecture, the implementation, and the ongoing operation — work whose value does not depend on how much you spend with anyone else.

The result is a narrower business and a simpler conversation. We tell clients what their environment actually looks like, what we would change, and what it would take. They keep the documentation either way.

Values

What we hold ourselves to

A new company cannot point to a long client list. What it can do is state plainly how it intends to operate, and be measured against that.

01

Independence

We do not resell licences, and no vendor pays us to recommend them. When the right answer is to spend less, nothing in our commercial model argues against saying so.

02

Evidence over assertion

Every finding we report is backed by configuration evidence you can inspect. Recommendations that cannot be evidenced are opinions, and we label them as such.

03

Write it down

Verbal advice cannot be audited, compared, or held to. Every engagement produces documentation you keep — useful whether or not you continue working with us.

04

Security is structural

Protection designed in at the architecture stage costs a fraction of protection retrofitted after an incident. We do not treat it as a phase that follows delivery.

05

Say no when it applies

If a project needs expertise we do not have, or the product being asked for is the wrong fit, we say so. That answer costs us a sale and saves the client considerably more.

06

Plain language

Technical accuracy and readability are not in tension. If a recommendation cannot be explained to the person signing for it, it is not finished.

How we work

Four principles that shape every engagement

01

We start with evidence

No recommendation before an assessment. We document what exists — licensing, configuration, usage, and risk — because advice offered before that is guesswork with a confident tone.

02

We scope to a decision

Engagements are shaped around a decision you actually need to make, with a defined output. Open-ended advisory retainers tend to produce activity rather than outcomes.

03

We plan the rollback first

Before a migration or configuration change begins, we agree what would trigger a rollback and how long executing it takes. Changes made without that are how weekends disappear.

04

We hand over properly

Documentation, runbooks, and a walkthrough with whoever will own the environment. If our leaving would break something, the engagement is not finished.

Our team

How engagements are staffed

We publish how the work is resourced rather than a page of titles. When there are named specialists to introduce, they will appear here.

Senior engineers on the work

The person who assesses your environment is the person who designs the change and the person who answers when something breaks. There is no handoff to a junior delivery team after the proposal is signed.

One accountable contact

A single named contact who holds context across licensing, security, and infrastructure — rather than a separate thread per discipline that you are left to coordinate.

Specialists brought in deliberately

Where an engagement needs depth outside our core — a specific compliance framework, a niche integration — we say so and bring in a specialist rather than improvising.

Why OVAL

What sets the work apart

Independent licensing advice

We do not resell Microsoft licences and earn no margin on what you buy. When the recommendation is to reduce your subscription, there is nothing on our side arguing against it.

Senior engineers, not a ticket queue

You deal with the people who designed your environment. No tiered escalation, no repeating your context to a new name each time.

Business-first recommendations

Technology decisions are framed in terms of cost, risk, and operational impact — because those are the terms the decision is actually being made in.

Security-first architecture

Identity, access, and data protection are designed at the start of an engagement rather than added after delivery, when retrofitting them costs several times as much.

Transparent pricing

Scoped, written quotations with the assumptions stated. No day-rate creep, and no discovering at invoice time that something reasonable was out of scope.

Documentation for every engagement

Architecture, configuration baselines, and runbooks handed over as standard. You keep them, and they are written so another provider could use them.

Long-term support

Ongoing review at a defined cadence, so an environment that was correct at handover stays correct as the organization changes around it.

Business details

Published in full because enterprise procurement teams, verification bodies, and prospective clients all reasonably expect to find it.

Let's start with a licensing review.

A short conversation, then a written assessment of what you hold, what you use, and what we would change. No cost, and no obligation to move your licensing.
