Why OVAL
Six commitments we hold ourselves to
A new company cannot point to a long client list. What it can do is state plainly how it intends to operate, and be measured against that.
We will tell you when you are over-licensed
We earn nothing on what you buy, so identifying forty unused seats costs us nothing and saves you the cost of forty seats. A provider whose margin depends on your inattention is not a provider worth having.
You talk to the person who did the work
No tiered queue, no repeating your context to whoever picks up. The engineer who designed your environment is the one who answers when something breaks.
Every recommendation is written down
Verbal advice cannot be audited, compared, or held to. You get a document setting out the current position, the options, the trade-offs, and our recommendation — yours whether or not you engage us.
Rollback is defined before any change
Before a migration or configuration change begins, we agree what would trigger a rollback and how long executing it takes. Changes made without that plan are how weekends disappear.
Your environment stays yours
Delegated administrative access is scoped to what the work requires, visible to you, and revocable at any time. If you leave, you keep your tenant, your data, your configuration, and the documentation.
We say no to work we should not take
If a project needs expertise we do not have, or the product being asked for is the wrong fit, we say so. That answer costs us a sale and saves you considerably more.
Why organizations choose OVAL
Independence, in practical terms
Independent licensing advice
We do not resell Microsoft licences and earn no margin on what you buy. When the recommendation is to reduce your subscription, there is nothing on our side arguing against it.
Senior engineers, not a ticket queue
You deal with the people who designed your environment. No tiered escalation, no repeating your context to a new name each time.
Business-first recommendations
Technology decisions are framed in terms of cost, risk, and operational impact — because those are the terms the decision is actually being made in.
Security-first architecture
Identity, access, and data protection are designed at the start of an engagement rather than added after delivery, when retrofitting them costs several times as much.
Transparent pricing
Scoped, written quotations with the assumptions stated. No day-rate creep, and no discovering at invoice time that something reasonable was out of scope.
Documentation for every engagement
Architecture, configuration baselines, and runbooks handed over as standard. You keep them, and they are written so another provider could use them.
Long-term support
Ongoing review at a defined cadence, so an environment that was correct at handover stays correct as the organization changes around it.
Deliverables
What clients receive
- A written assessment of the current state, with evidence for every finding
- A prioritized recommendation ranked by risk and effort, not by ease
- A scoped quotation with assumptions and exclusions stated plainly
- Architecture and configuration documentation you keep permanently
- Runbooks written so another provider could operate the environment
- An executive summary written for a non-technical audience
Technology approach
How we design
- Use what you already own
- Most organizations are licensed for considerably more capability than they have configured. Before recommending a purchase, we establish what your existing entitlements already cover.
- Design before build
- Naming, topology, identity model, and governance decided up front. Retrofitting structure onto a sprawling environment costs several times what establishing it early does.
- Prefer the platform default
- Custom configuration is a permanent maintenance obligation. We deviate from platform defaults when there is a stated reason, and we record the reason.
- Build for the handover
- Every environment is designed on the assumption that someone else will operate it. That constraint produces simpler, better-documented systems.
Security approach
How we protect
- Identity is the perimeter
- The overwhelming majority of business compromises begin with a credential. Conditional access, phishing-resistant authentication, and privileged access management come before perimeter tooling.
- Configured beats licensed
- Unconfigured security tooling provides no protection while costing full price. We would rather see a well-configured mid-tier plan than an untouched premium one.
- Alerts need an owner
- Detection without a named responder produces a dashboard nobody opens. Every control we deploy has a documented path from alert to decision to action.
- Evidence as a deliverable
- Controls are documented as they are built, so audit and insurance questions are answered from an existing record rather than reconstructed under deadline.
FAQ
What people ask first
Is it disruptive to move our Microsoft licensing to a new provider?
No. Changing who you buy through happens at the billing relationship level. Your tenant, data, users, and settings are untouched, and the change is normally invisible to your staff. Annual subscriptions transfer most cleanly at their renewal date.
What does an initial licensing review cost?
Nothing. For organizations considering working with us, the initial review is provided at no cost and with no obligation. You keep the written assessment regardless of what you decide.
How quickly can you respond to a support request?
Response commitments are set in your service agreement and vary by severity and the scope you engage. We set them at levels we can meet consistently rather than at levels that sound impressive.
Do you require a long-term contract?
No. Services are engaged on terms we agree with you, and we do not use multi-year lock-ins to retain customers. If the work is not worth renewing, the answer is to improve the work.
What if we already have an IT provider?
That is common. Advisory and day-to-day IT support are separable, and we work alongside existing internal teams and managed service providers regularly.
Do you sell Microsoft licences?
No. OVAL LLC is an independent technology consulting company, not a reseller. We earn no margin on what you buy, which is precisely what makes the advice worth having.
Let's start with a licensing review.
A short conversation, then a written assessment of what you hold, what you use, and what we would change. No cost, and no obligation to move your licensing.
